The CGR 7/8 rang in the New Year well
Rig was Orvis Warmwater WF7F, a 6-7wt Furlgirl 5' Mono furled leader and 6lb Stren Flourocast tippett.
Hammer-handles were taking the fly retrieved slow on the decent/pause....but very slight. The afternoon brought 1/2 dozen fish to hand, with 1 big fish pushing 20" breaking me off when landing.
1st warmwater fish of the year goes to the Pickerel
See you on the water!
Ralph
ReplyDeleteGood looking combo, never landed a Pickerel, looks like quite a fight on the fly. Thanks for sharing
Hi Bill. They are fun. Hard on flies, but worth it.
ReplyDeleteHard on flies, I'll second that.
ReplyDeleteGreat fish.
often maligned but one heck of a lot of fun. they fight like hell
ReplyDeletebtw- if you catch one big enough, they are excellent eating. steak them and fry in butter and breadcrumbs.
Agreed John, I have eaten quite a few caught through the ice over the years.
ReplyDeleteHi Ralph, I have an antique f/g Zebco rod which I pair with a Mitchell CAP reel for pickerel and bass pond fishing. Much easier on my semi-working shoulder. Lots of fun, as well.
